Stunned Sparrowhawk

A loud thud on the kitchen window at breakfast time was a sparrowhawk misjudging its flight path. It was lying on the ground by the window but was still alive. However ten minutes later it had barely moved and had one wing outstretched. I was on the point of phoning Steve Hopper at South Hams Hawks & Owls for advice when it managed a short flight across the front drive. Another ten minutes and it flew over the hedge into an adjacent field so all was well . PS I did notice that it had a rather large tick by its right eye but I guess that's fairly common?
